Farmington girls track and field: Tiger 4x2 ninth at 2A state meet

Emma Record runs the 4x200 for the Tigers at Saturday’s state meet.

A ninth-place finish from the 4x200 relay accounted for the Farmington girls’ lone point over the weekend at the Class 2A state meet.

The Tiger foursome of Jennifer Miller, Emma Record, Izzie Ferm and Megan Graham came in seventh in the prelims, but settled for a ninth-place time of 1 minute, 45.63 seconds in Saturday’s rain-soaked finals.

In the 4x400, Graham, Ferm, Miller and Alicia Hett just missed the finals with an 11th-place 3:59.08 prelim clocking. The 4x800 unit of Hett, Sofia Chadwick, Lauren Peterson and Morgan Mach settled for a 15th-place time of 9:42.26.

“Our goal was to run fast enough on Friday to advance to Saturday’s finals. The 4x200 did just that and the 4x400 came up just a bit short,” Farmington coach Tom Hart said. “I think Saturday’s weather affected the 4x200’s performance a bit as it was hard to stay loose to spring standing in the cold rain. Our 4x800 got out there and battled in their heat, really competing really hard. All of those ladies will return next year with some valuable experience behind them.”

Ferm, the Tigers’ lone senior state qualifier, added a 15th-place leap of 35-1 ¾ in the triple jump in her final state meet.

“It was a good run for these ladies and a great experience,” Hart said. “We did not score as many team points as we hoped, but we gained some valuable experience in competing in the biggest meet of the year.”
