Dakota City summer camps are still taking registrations
A few openings remain in Dakota City Heritage Village's second and third sessions of its annual youth day camp, titled 1900 Apprentice. Space is available in the sessions scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, July 6-9 and July 20-23.
Each session will include no more than 20 youth.
Students aged 6-13 are eligible to attend the camp, which will feature hands-on learning activities guided by experienced history interpreters. Youth will participate in household chores such as cooking and doing laundry and learn about 1900s trades such as farming and printing. They also will visit village buildings such as the Town Hall and Fire Hall; play 1900s games such as croquet, stilts and hoops; and tour the prairie to learn about 1900s environmentalism.
The cost is $100 per youth for the four-day camp. Each attendee will be asked to bring a bag lunch and beverage each day. Families must furnish their own transportation to Dakota City, located at 4008 220th St. W. on the fairgrounds in Farmington.
