Learn about the outdoors at this weekend's National Pheasant Fest in St. Paul

Minnesotans who want to learn more about hunting, fishing or improving their lands for wildlife can get information from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources this weekend at Pheasants Forever's National Pheasant Fest in St. Paul.

The 25th annual festival opens at 1 p.m. Friday and concludes at 5 p.m. Sunday at RiverCentre, in downtown St. Paul.

"This weekend is a great time to learn about the outdoors by coming indoors and taking part in a number of fun activities," said C.B. Bylander, outreach section chief for the DNR's Fish and Wildlife Division.

Activities for youth and families include archery, laser shot and casting.

Private landowners who attend can get free advice on how to improve their property for wildlife habitat. The DNR will have private land habitat specialists available who have the ability to print out aerial photos of properties from all across the state.

Other DNR programs represented will be Roadsides for Wildlife, Ecological Resources, Becoming an Outdoors Woman, National Archery in the Schools, MinnAqua, DNR Information Center and Firewise.

"The DNR will be there to introduce basic hunting and fishing skills and make it easier for people to find ways to enjoy the great natural resources Minnesota has to offer," said Bylander.
