Summer. Three month of glorious freedom stretched out before you. You don’t have to think about school or homework. Not having to wake up at 6 a.m. seems like heaven to most students. You can do what you want with your time. And there are many things to do. One popular option is, of course, going to a beach. Hanging out in the sun and sand can make any day better. Going boating or hanging out on a lake is another fun way to pass the time. On the lake, you have many options. You can choose to go kayaking or canoeing.
Summer is coming up fast. As of Friday, May 16, there were 21 days left until June 6. The time sure does fly. Especially once it gets to be the third and final trimester of the school year. First tri always seems to go slow. Many people are still in the summer mindset and don’t wish to be locked up in a school building for seven hours.
If you’re like me, going to the movies is a fun way to spend time with people. Recently, my good friend who moved out of state came back to visit and we went to a movie. Also, my family and I went out to the movie theater one weekend to do something together as a family. The movie we saw was “Draft Day.” It was one of my favorite movies. If you are an NFL fan, it is a must see. “Draft Day” gives viewers a behind the scenes look at what goes on within a franchise when draft day arrives.
The recent warm weather mixed together with the snow finally melting creates a renewed love of being outside. There is plenty to enjoy about being outside, whether it’s the fresh air, the sound of birds chirping or the fresh aroma of flowers sprouting after a long, hard winter. Many people love the outdoors and take good care of the earth.
Having an emotional attachment to a movie is not uncommon. It’s happened in the past, it’s happening now and it will happen in the future. The movies that create these kinds of attachments are most commonly ones that have been made from a popular book. A movie series from the past which created an emotional attachment is the Harry Potter movies. When one of the most wildly popular books became a movie, the fandom could not be controlled. People were dressing up as their favorite characters and staying up past midnight to see the premier of each of the movies.
Vacationing over spring break can be the perfect way to relieve yourself from the harsh Minnesota winters. You can go somewhere warm and exotic, or somewhere relatively cool but with amazing opportunities. This can result in two very different vacations, but both equally memorable. This was the case between my friend and me, with him traveling somewhere warm while I spent the week in a place not much warmer than Minnesota. While staying in beautiful New York City not far from Times Square, my family and I had the chance to experience this popular and well known city.
Let me start out by saying what every Farmington High School student wanted to scream at the top of his or her lungs when released from school last Thursday: FINALS ARE FINALLY OVER! There was a feeling of relief for many and all the stress that had been occupying them since the beginning of the week could finally be lifted off their shoulders. Finals mean a close to one trimester and a start to another. Which in this case is the start to the third and final trimester of this school year. That is one of the many positive things about a close of a trimester.
Change is a scary thing for most people. We have a routine and we like to stick to it. There is a sense of comfort that comes with having a regular schedule. It makes us feel safe and secure. When that security is broken, it can be difficult to cope with. Some of the major changes that can happen are getting married, buying a house, having children, and they all come with their ups and downs. As a full time student, I’m not looking for any of those changes anytime soon. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t experience change.
Today if you go to any store that has anything chocolate or Valentine’s related, beware. Since Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, many people might be hurriedly shopping for a last minute gift for their significant other. Here’s a tip: if you’re getting something for a girl, you can’t go wrong with flowers, chocolates, cute little teddy bears or a sentimental card. If you’re looking for something for a boy, sorry, I can’t help you there.
With school being cancelled five times in many different districts due to cold weather, Netflix is a fun pastime while you’re enjoying your day off. With a variety of shows and movies, you can watch just about any genre you desire. It’s fantastic. Getting into a show on Netflix can be very dangerous, but in a good way. Once you start a show, you can never seem to stop. It’s addicting. You get so into the show that you keep watching episode after episode, even when you tell yourself you’re only going to watch one more. This cycle goes on and on until you finish a season in one day.
