In elementary school writing classes, one of the most common writing topics I can remember is, “What is your favorite holiday?” There were a variety of answers and usually every single holiday was represented. As a meticulous elementary school student, I always wanted my essays to be perfect. But how could my essay be perfect if I didn’t even know what my favorite holiday was? I wrote essays on Halloween, Valentines Day and Easter. I just couldn’t decide which was my favorite.
Every year, Farmington High School collects for Toys for Town, a Farmington-based drive that collects toys for children for Christmas. All toys are accepted, from little boy toys like Lego...
Black Friday shopping: some people love it, and some hate it. For those of you that love it, I’m with you 100 percent. It’s a girls dream to walk into a store and see those glorious signs announcing “Buy one get one free” or “Buy one get one half off.” Being a crazed fashion boot addict, my personal favorite is, “Buy one pair of boots, get one for $5.” My heart melted when I saw that sign. It was too good of a deal to pass up. I came across those too-good-to-miss deals quite a bit this past Friday.
Veterans Day. It comes around once a year. At Farmington High School, we like to celebrate Veterans Day in a special way. We celebrate our veterans by hosting a Patriotic Day dinner and presentation. The food at this event is spectacular. It’s something that many people look forward to about the Patriotic Day celebration. While enjoying your meal, you are surrounded by some of our outstanding veterans. Each veteran has a different story to tell, and it amazes me how interesting each and every story is.
First day of school: Two months ago. MEA break: Come and gone. Halloween: Over. First trimester of the school year: Three weeks left. Why is it that time always flies by so fast? It seems like just yesterday I was getting ready for my first day of sophomore year. Now we are already almost one third of the way through the year. It’s crazy. But the end of a trimester usually means one thing to students: finals. The most dreaded week of the trimester is quickly approaching, and there is no way for us to slow it down or stop it from happening. Finals always seem to sneak up on us.
Growing up is typically something that young kids look forward to. They want to have more freedom. Hanging out with your friends without your parents having to set up your “play date,” getting your license and being able to drive yourself places and being a cool high school student are anticipated. In some cases, you even wish time would speed up so you could experience these things even sooner. As you get older and realize how much you have grown up, you begin to wish time would slow down. Most of the time, people don’t realize how much they have matured until certain things happen.
