A 50-year-old Rosemount woman faces felony charges of criminal vehicular operation after a Friday night accident in which she lost control in a roundabout at Highway 3 and 190th Street and hit another car head on. The woman, Elizabeth Dawn Nelson, was seriously hurt in the accident. Three others received minor injuries. According to a Minnesota State Patrol report, Nelson was driving south on Highway 3 when she entered the roundabout. She went over the curb, hit a sign and drove into oncoming traffic, where she ran into a Honda CR-V.
A little extra caution might be warranted on the Monday morning commute. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has issued a wintry weather advisory for Sunday night and Monday because of a combination of freezing rain and snow. The advisory includes Dakota County. According to the NOAA report, Sunday's freezing drizzle will transition to snow overnight and Monday morning in west central Minnesota and spreading into east central Minnesota, including Dakota County, likely causing challenging conditions for the morning commute across the Twin Cities. Ben Kopp was born a fighter, but late last week he found a fight he couldn't win. The 2006 Rosemount High School graduate died Saturday, just over a week after he was injured during fighting in Afghanistan.
