To the editor: The 2018 Farm Bill didn’t pass. It had some things in it though that exhibits the differences between who are for the Farm Bill and those who oppose it. The bill would have ended the Conservation Stewardship Plan, another USDA program providing government oversight for: planting schedules, crop yields and erosion management. And, the SNAP (food stamp) program would have been reformed so that able-bodied people could participate in job training and employment as part of an obligation to receive benefits.
Organizers for Rosemount’s ArtBlast hope to kindle the creative in all who come check out more than 27 artful events planned from June 18-24. Rosemount Area Arts Council and volunteers in the community have been busy planning the sixth annual event with seven days of celebrating the arts with a citywide, daily lineup of entertainment and events.

'I'm not here by choice, I need to get out,' and it didn't really phase him," she said. "So he assaulted me, but he kept saying, 'I'm sorry.'" Twice in five years Coleman found herself reporting rapes, talking to police and nurses, feeling lost and alone.
Dakota City Heritage Village is planning a Family & Friends Fun Day 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 15, during Dew Days. People are urged to bring a Dew Days button and bring a picnic lunch. Free popcorn will be offered. The outdoor museum will be open to see horse-drawn buggies and farm machinery from the past. Children can play vintage games, watch the blacksmith at work in his forge and see a woodworker creating a project.
Dakota County is providing free travel training to help people increase their mobility and independence. Travel Training is a service offered through the new GoDakota initiative to improve access to communities for older adults and people with disabilities in Dakota County. The training teaches individuals and groups about public and private transportation options available across the county and how to use them.
CASS COUNTY, Minn. -- A 9-year-old boy died in one of two ATV crashes in Cass County over the weekend, law enforcement officials said Monday, June 4. The other crash involved two Farmington youth, who were not seriously injured.
Randolph Public Schools will host an open house June 7 so people can learn and ask questions about the Dakota County Road 88 reconstruction. The county proposed rebuilding County Road 88 in Randolph Township from Highway 65 to Highway 52. The purpose is to improve safety, increase mobility and improve pavement quality, according to a news release from Dakota County.
Candidate filings closed Tuesday, June 5 with several area contested races including a four-way race for two Rosemount City Council seats. The filing period for Farmington is July 31 through August 14. Mark DeBettignies and Paul Essler filed the first day and appeared to have no challengers until the last day when Tammy Block and Shaun Nelson both filed.
