Burnsville teen killed in accident on Highway 52

A 17-year-old Burnsville boy was killed and three others were injured Wednesday night when an SUV rolled over on Highway 52.

Ty Alyea was a passenger in the northbound 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee when the driver, 17-year-old Matthew Berger, lost control near 180th St. The jeep rolled through the median and into the southbound lanes of traffic.

Three other people in the SUV, all from Burnsville, were injured. Cole Borchardt, 18, received serious injuries according to the State Patrol. Berger and Tylan Procko, both 17, received non-life threatening injuries, the State Patrol reported.

Alyea and Borchardt were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.

The road was in good condition and there was no sign of alcohol use by any of the boys in the car.

In a letter posted on the school’s website, Burnsville High School principal Dave Helke said administrators and support staff would be available at the school for students who wanted to talk about the accident.

“It is always difficult to understand a loss like this and it is an especially important time to reach out for support,” Helke wrote.
