Students from 13 schools descended upon Farmington High School April 13 for their first-annual Middle School Band Festival.

Bands traveled from nearby districts including Lakeville and Northfield, as well as more distant communities including Kasson-Mantorville and Austin. This opportunity afforded middle school ensembles an opportunity to perform for their peers in the high school's Recital Hall, as well as spend time working with musical adjudicators.

Clinicians for this non-competitive event were John Greene, retired District 196 band director, and Dr. Doug Orzolek, associate director of bands at University of St. Thomas.

The eighth-grade bands from both Dodge Middle School and Boeckman Middle School took part in the festival, and the day kicked off with a special exhibition performance by the Farmington High School Varsity Band. The festival was organized by band directors Erin Holmes and Bradley Mariska and staffed by student volunteers.
