Fire department to host recruitment open houses
FARMINGTON — The city of Farmington Fire Department will be holding two recruitment open houses to hire additional paid-on-call firefighters in March.
"This is our second year doing events like this," Fire Chief Justin Elvestad said. "Right now, we are in need of candidates that live close to Fire Station 1 but all are encouraged to attend."
Those interested can attend one of the following open houses:
• March 13, 7 p.m. at Fire Station No. 1, 21625 Denmark Ave.
• March 27, 8 a.m. at Fire Station No. 2, 19695 Municipal Drive.
The open houses will provide a glimpse into what working in the Farmington Fire Department is like. In this more informal setting, prospective paid-on-call firefighters will have the chance to tour the fire station, check out the fire trucks and explore the equipment. Current firefighters will be in attendance to answer questions about the job and the department.
No fire-rescue training is required to be considered for a position as a paid-on-call firefighter. All training is done through the department. Firefighters are eligible for a retirement pension and hourly wage.
