Farmington jazz bands sweep region contest

Farmington High School jazz bands traveled to Lakeville on Jan. 19 for the MSHSL Region 1AA Solo/Ensemble Festival. FHS entered four big bands in the contest, with Farmington Jazz I taking top honors among all jazz ensembles. Under the direction of Erin Holmes, Jazz I was not only was recognized as the top jazz band out of 10 ensembles, but received a perfect 40 out of 40 score.

Jazz II, under the direction of Bradley Mariska, also got a perfect score of 40. A third Farmington ensemble, Birdland Jazz, received a Superior Rating (36 points), while Blue Note Jazz received an Excellent Rating (34 points).

The bands will present their programs to the public at the Winter Jazz Concert at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 11, in the FHS Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.
