The Farmington Tigers girls' hockey team had no problem in their first-round game of the Section 1AA playoffs. The No. 1-seeded Tigers blew out No. 9 Rochester John Marshall—who beat No. 8 Rochester Mayo in a play-in game on Monday-- 11-0 Wednesday night, Feb. 6, at Schmitz-Maki Arena. Farmington scored three goals in the first period, two in the second and six in the third to advance to the semifinals where they will face No. 5 Lakeville South on Saturday, Feb. 9, in Farmington. The Cougars beat No. 4 Northfield 3-1 on Wednesday as well.

Eight different Tiger skaters scored their 11 goals in the rout of Rochester John Marshall. In a span of less than two minutes sophomore Carly Lancaster, freshman Claire Enright and fellow freshman Samantha Moehle scored all three of Farmington's first-period goals. Midway through the second period senior Bailey Kelley scored unassisted and then senior Jenna Gerold scored a couple minutes later with help from Enright to take a 5-0 lead.

In the third period Gerold scored two more goals (one shorthanded) for a hat trick. Moehle scored a second goal while junior Grace Auge, freshman Ava Johnson and sophomore Kiersten Wood all scored to make it the 11-0 final. The Tigers outshot John Marshall an astounding 65-5 and held them shotless in the second period.

On the opposite side of the Section 1AA bracket, No. 3 Dodge County beat No. 6 Owatonna 2-0 and No. 2 Lakeville North defeated No. 7 Rochester Century 13-2. Should Farmington beat Lakeville South, they would play the winner between Lakeville North and Dodge County on Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Steele County Four Season Centre in Owatonna for the chance to go to state.
