ST. PAUL — Law enforcement in Minnesota will put extra attention on speeders through July 21. More than 300 agencies will add extra shifts to combat speeding, which between Memorial Day and Labor Day in 2018 accounted for 30 fatalities across the state, the Department of Public Safety said. Last year, 113 motorists died on Minnesota roads — the most in a decade — in speed-related crashes. In 2018, speeding was a contributing factor in 23% of single-vehicle crashes.

ST. PAUL - More than 300 law enforcement agencies across Minnesota combined to make 2,757 arrests for drunken driving during a holiday enforcement campaign, an increase of nearly 4 percent from 2,656 a year ago. During the Nov. 21-Dec. 29 campaign, 15 drivers were reported to have a blood-alcohol content level of .30 or higher, the highest being .424 reported by University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) police, the Department of Public Safety said. ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Board of Animal Health has confirmed the first cases of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease — known as EHD, for short — in Minnesota deer. Six of seven animals in a small herd of captive white-tailed deer in Goodhue County in southeast Minnesota died of the disease earlier this month. The remaining buck appears healthy at this time and is showing no clinical signs associated with the disease.
Getting outdoors to hunt squirrels, rabbits and other small game is the focus of Minnesota's Take a Kid Hunting Weekend this Saturday, Sept. 22, and Sunday, Sept. 23. During the weekend, adult Minnesota residents accompanied by a youth younger than age 16 can hunt small game without a license but must comply with open seasons, limits and other regulations, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

ST. PAUL — Minnesota has the lowest adult obesity rate among Upper Midwest states despite an increase of 0.7 percent from 2016 to 2017. Iowa has the highest percentage at 36.4 percent, followed by North Dakota, Wisconsin and South Dakota. Minnesota's adult obesity rate of 28.4 percent also ranks the lowest amongst 12 Midwest states, the Minnesota Department of Health said in a news release.
ST. PAUL -- The arrest of one woman with a blood-alcohol content of 0.21 driving to a dentist’s office with her 3-year-old child in Alexandria was just one of 1,369 such arrests Minnesota law enforcement made during a campaign targeting drunken drivers. Extra drunken driving enforcement Aug. 17-Sept.2 yielded just one less arrest than last year’s campaign total, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety said in a news release. Authorities issued 1,244 seat belt violations, a drop of 286 from the 2017 campaign.
