Just the word "norovirus" is enough to upset your stomach. This season the nasty stomach bug is worse than ever. There was a recent news story about the more than 475 people on a single cruise ship becoming infected with the virus. Outbreaks have also been reported across the Twin Cities including schools and senior living facilities. Ask your friends and neighbors—it is going around.
Farmington High School jazz bands traveled to Lakeville on Jan. 19 for the MSHSL Region 1AA Solo/Ensemble Festival. FHS entered four big bands in the contest, with Farmington Jazz I taking top honors among all jazz ensembles. Under the direction of Erin Holmes, Jazz I was not only was recognized as the top jazz band out of 10 ensembles, but received a perfect 40 out of 40 score.
Authorities recovered a body from the debris of a house explosion Tuesday morning, Feb. 5, 2019, in the 24000 block of Lewiston Boulevard, in Hampton Township, according to the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office.

History was made when the Farmington Tigers boys' swimming and diving team hosted Lakeville North on Tuesday, Jan. 22. The 200-yard medley relay team of senior Ben Moorlach, junior Seth Krause, senior Zach Nelson and freshman Brandon Wilcek broke the previous school record of 1 minute, 40.20 seconds with a time of 1:39.53. The previous record was set in 2016.

The Dakota County Historical Society is seeking individuals to participate in a two-hour tour review event at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at the LeDuc Historic Estate, 1629 Vermillion St. The event is free of charge and will include a tour and discussion.
The Sports Car Club of America has announced its 2019 schedule of Track Night in America, and it's returning to Rosemount for five days. The track days will be May 17, June 21, July 25, Aug. 15 and Sept. 13 at the Dakota County Technical College driver training facility. Track Night in America is a noncompetitive option for anyone who loves cars to get on a race course in their own vehicle. Participants must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver's license, an approved helmet and a street car in good working condition.
District 196 schools will be closed Monday Jan. 28, 2019, and it will be a flexible learning day for Farmington Public Schools due to weather, the districts announced Sunday.
